Students had a difficult time with the notion of silica content and how it determined whether the volcanic output would be runny or not. It took a while, but eventually students caught on when we compared volcanic output (lava or ash and rock) to diarrhea and constipation.
Tonight's Homework: None, since our discussion went so long.
