Working as table groups, students reviewed the major characteristics of sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous rocks. Students looked at samples of sedimentary rocks and determined if they were clastic, chemical or organic in origin. Next, students looked at igneous rock samples and classified them as mafic or felsic, and intrusive or extrusive. The last group of rocks we observed were metamorphic rocks. Students classified each of these samples as foliated or non-foliated.
Tonight's Homework: Study for the Chapter 2 test over rocks and the rock cycle, which will be taken in class on Thursday.
