What is Density?

Students learned that density is a measure of the how tightly packed the molecules are in a given substance. To determine the density of any substance, divide the mass by the volume. We used this information to calculate the density of the different cubes, our liquids from yesterday, and several random objects, like the push pin. We predicted where the pine and poly cubes would float in our layered density column, and our predictions were supported!

We gathered mass and volume data about oranges, and then calculated the density of the orange. This activity will continue tomorrow in class.

Tonight's Homework: Prepare for Friday's quiz over mass, volume and density.
