Stacking Water is Fun!

Students compared adding and subtracting decimal numbers with computing with the same numbers in fraction form. They saw that the answers are identical. This should reinforce the relationship between fractions and decimals.

In science, we saw what happened when we stacked hot water on top of cold water. Then we reversed this, and were amazed to see the water mixing. This explains why the ocean and atmosphere have different kinds of currents. We also tested what happens with salty water and fresh water. These demonstrations helped students understand that the density of the water will control movement of the medium (water, air).
